Perhaps we have found a sister organization in Denver with whom we could share some common events. We have been in contact with The English-Speaking Union of the United States. They are a non-profit, non-political, educational organization whose mission is to promote scholarship and the advancement of knowledge through the effective use of English in an expanding global community.
Churchill was associated with this organization from its inception in 1918. He was chairman and honorary deputy president until his death. The founder, Sir Evelyn Wrench in alliance with the American Ambassador to Britain, Walter Hines Page, created The English-Speaking Union to promote better understanding among the English speaking peoples of the world. At the end of WWI the US and Britain were not on the best of terms. This Union was meant to address the problems.
Check out their website: http://www.esuus.org . You can also find information on their local Denver chapter through this site. At their Annual Conference in Richmond, Virginia, October 31 - November 4, 2007 they will have a Churchill Symposium entitled “Churchill and the English Speaking Peoples.” |
